How To Get To Granada

Granada is one of my favorite cities in all of Spain and one I recommend people visit. Whether you live in Spain, or just want to visit I hope this article can tell you how to get to Granada.

The most convenient way to get to this city is by their airport of course. It is only 15 km away from downtown and there are plenty of taxi and buses to take you to the city.

We went to Spain after our Greece trip, so we flew from Athens to Barcelona, then a short 1 hour layover later we flew from Barcelona to Granada.

While the airport is technically international, it is quite small so there are not too many flights. International directs come from London-City during season on British Airways, and regular service from Bordeaux, Berlin-Tegel, London-Gatwick, Manchester, Milan-Malpensa, Nantes, and Naples on easyJet. Paris-CDG on Vueling.

We took Vueling for both legs which was quite comfortable (although short flights are never really that bad).

Another way to get to this city is by train. There are many daily trains from both Madrid and Barcelona that go to Granada and they could not be easier. It is 35 Euro from Madrid and takes about three and a half hours. From Barcelona it is about six and a half hours and costs 45 Euro. The trains are comfortable and have food for sale. You can buy tickets directly at the train station in cash, or go to www.renfe.es to buy them beforehand online.

Lastly, the coach bus. Whether you just want to save money, or enjoy taking buses, there are plenty of different routes available. As we flew into Granada (first time) we did not take the bus, but we saw many of them around the city. They are operated by the company ALSA which goes all over Spain. You can buy tickets at https://www.alsa.com

On our third time we actually flew into Malaga and took a bus to Granada.
