Goreme, Cappadocia is one of my favorite locations in Turkey. This place has almost everything: amazing nature, interesting history, fun activities, fantastic restaurants, and unique hotels. To stay in one of the famous cave hotels in Cappadocia is not just a great experience, but also a must to do thing. Here is an unbiased and honest review of one of the cave hotels I’ve stayed at – Cappadocia Caves Hotel.
If you’ve seen my review of the presidential suite at Anatolian House Cave Hotel but wanted to avoid the roughly $200 a night rate, then Cappadocia Caves Hotel for one sixth the price comes in as a nice alternative.
One of the reasons why we chose to stay at Cappadocia Caves Hotel is its public area. The hotel has a quite big roof terrace where they serve breakfasts. There is also a specially made patio for iconic pictures with hot air balloons. The patio has a colorful carpet and a few bright cushions to help you take the best photos. On the terrace you will also find a small swimming pool. In winter the pool will not make any difference, but in summer however, a swimming pool is a nice addition that you are going to be happy to have.
We arrived at Goreme around 2 pm (read: how to get to Goreme from Kayseri or Nevsehir airports) by shuttle bus that we booked a day before. The whole check-in took us 5 minutes and we went straight to our rooms.
Cappadocia Caves Hotel has cave-rooms and regular rooms. We of course wanted to stay at a cave-room, so that’s what we booked. I felt really excited as soon as I entered the room. The interior, the special atmosphere, and even this specific (in a good way) cave smell, all made me feel so happy.
Our cave-room was quite big with a king size bed, two side tables, a wardrobe, and a nice lounge area with armchairs, a coffee table, a fridge, and a vanity.
For those who don’t like closed spaces, the experience of living in a cave can be ruined by the fact that there weren’t any windows.
One thing that I also should mention is that sometimes some sand grains and tiny rocks fell from our ceiling. Most of the time it didn’t bother us, but it can be annoying when you are laying on a bed, facing the ceiling and something falls on your face.
The bathroom at Cappadocia Caves Hotel in a cave-room is quite nice and spacious, however the shower looked a bit outdated and leaked underneath the glass door.
All the amenities were supplied and towels exchanged daily.
Cappadocia Caves Hotel has a free breakfast that, as mentioned already, is served on the terrace. The food was quite decent and they had a large selection of dishes. However the only coffee that they had was instant, which disappointed me a lot.
