Hotel Review: Song Broek Jungle Resort

We were first inspired to stay at Song Broek Jungle Resort because of their fantastic pool. It is a bit like a discount version of the famous Hanging Gardens of Bali, and as we weren’t trying to spend $500+ a night, this place worked out perfectly.

Song Broek Hotel Review

The hotel is located about 30 minutes north of Ubud city in an area called Pajangan. We decided to come here after staying at Rumah Erwin in central Ubud. This is a small village, but it’s packed with all the best hotels and resorts due to it’s somewhat isolated locale. Not to mention it is in the middle of lush jungle so you can really feel at one with nature.

Sunset

While we booked our stay at Song Broek Jungle Resort through AirBnB. It is more of a hotel than a guesthouse so you can easily book on Booking.com, or your preferred booking website. We paid about $40 a night for our bungalow which had a full ensuite and air-conditioning.

Song Broek Bungalows

Song Broek Bungalows

In total there are nine guest bungalows on the property, all of them roughly the same size and facing the tropical jungle. Inside ours was a large queen sized four poster bed with netting to keep out the insects. A small vanity was on one side, and a writing desk on the other. Near the head of the bed is a small table in which we can put our charging devices.

Bungalows

The structure of the bungalow is well built, although nothing truly seals so you will see insects or geckos inside at times. We didn’t’ mind as we just put down the bed’s netting when it was time to sleep. Most of the time we were out by the pool anyway.

Our room at Song Broek

There is a separate closet room which was spacious enough, as well as two lockable wardrobe cabinets to keep your things safe. The bathroom had modern plumbing and the floor of the shower was made of river rocks. Don’t worry, you don’t need sandals to take a shower, the rocks actually feel super good on your feet.

Bathroom

I did find the heated water a bit hit or miss. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn’t, but that’s to be expected in a tropical nature lodge at these good value prices.

Of course the number one reason to go here is to lounge by their fantastic pool. It is a partial infinity pool which basically hangs over the lush jungle that the hotel butts up against. The water is always clean and kept at a refreshing temperature, so we actually spent the majority of our days here.

Song Broek pool

Song Broek Jungle Resort includes a breakfast with your stay, and you get a choice of what to eat. Omelette, fried eggs, banana pancakes, and some other options are available. It is not a lot of food, but it did tend to hold us until a very early dinner so it worked out just fine.

Breakfast

If you want something a bit kitschy you can order a floating breakfast. I know this is more for the “gram” than not, but it does really make a good picture, and it is fun eating in a pool. My one recommendation is that for the price they add a glass or two of sparkling wine to really round out that bougie experience.

Floating breakfast

The grounds of the resort are well manicured and there are lots of picture taking opportunities everywhere you look. We of course brought our drone and got some great aerial footage from this resort (and some other places in Ubud) which you can see below.

Negatives

The one big negative about this place is that it is too isolated to do anything unless you have a scooter or plan on spending money on taxis. As it’s a 30 minute ride just to the Ubud city center, we actually never left the resort for almost 4 days. No matter, the onsite restaurant is decent for some cheap Indonesian food. I was happy they didn’t try to gouge guests with the prices.
