Have A Stroll Around The Tuileries Garden (Jardin des Tuileries)

The Tuileries Garden is a great public garden that is located between the Louvre museum and the Place de la Concorde. It is a favorite place for Parisians to relax, have a nice walk, or have a picnic. The park was created in 1564 by Catherine di Medici. If you have read my article “12 Dishes That Made Me Fall In Love With French Cuisine”, you know that she is the one who brought macarons to France from Italy. The Tuileries Garden at that time was closed to the public, and just after French Revolution it became a public park.

The Tuileries Garden is utterly amazing, full of bronze statues, fountains, and iconic green chairs all over the park. Depending on the day and how you feel, you can choose to sit next to a refreshing fountain or hide in the shade of large trees with an incredible view of the Eiffel Tower and the Place de la Concorde.

The Tuileries Garden has become our favorite place as well. I don’t know what exactly makes it so special. Maybe its location, since every day after all the excursions, for some reason, we ended up in this park. Or maybe it is the relaxing vibe that is floating in the air. I actually fell asleep once on those green chairs. Or it’s because it is very unique and beautiful and big that even in the most crowded times the park doesn’t feel crowded at all.

Before I wrote that you absolutely need to have a picnic at Champ de Mars and now I say that to feel the Paris soul you do need to spend some time in the Tuileries Garden. Have a nice stroll around the park and just admire beautiful statues, get comfortable in one of the green chairs next to the biggest fountain, and watch people. Or enjoy the view of the Louvre, get yourself under the shade of trees with a view of the Eiffel Tower, or have a romantic picnic with your partner, friends, or family.

In the Tuileries Garden there is a cafe and an ice cream shop, which is so great on a hot sunny day. At the exit that leads to the Place de la Concorde there is a paid bathroom (super clean I must say). The garden is well maintained and taken care of.

The Tuileries Garden is also a home to the Jeu de Paume (an art center for photography and video from the 19^th century to 21^st century) and the muse de l’Orangerie (the museum where are located famous murals with water lilies by Monet).

Final Thoughts

The Tuileries Garden is a fantastic garden that should be on your must-do list in Paris. Of course, it is way nicer if you are visiting in summer, spring, or fall since the trees have leaves and the fountains work, but even in winter you should spend some time strolling across this beautiful park. Plus, around Christmas there is a Christmas market here, so you can enjoy it and get some souvenirs.
